Pearland Lets You Relax on the Edge of Convenience
As a city along the edge of the Houston metropolis, Pearland offers all the convenience of a major city but includes easy access to the less congested outskirts. Just minutes away from the full city of Houston, Pearland residents have every big city amenity at their fingertips. However, don't think the smaller city doesn't have anything of its own to offer. There are plenty of good times to be had without ever stepping foot outside of city limits.
Recreation
Pearland offers a little something for everyone and it's likely our residents will discover something new that will become a favorite leisure activity. Independent residents who want to spend time in nature will have plenty of options throughout the more than 175 acres of park space, many with dedicated walking, hiking, and biking trails. Our occupants will find tennis courts, volleyball courts, basketball courts, picnic areas, and playgrounds that are perfect for spending the day with visiting family. There are also several paved trails that are wheelchair accessible. Geocaching is serious business in Pearland, with over 30 sites scattered throughout the local parks and historical locations. Golf enthusiasts have two private courses to choose from, including Southwyck Golf Club and Golfcrest Country Club, and the public Pearland Golf Club. The city is also home to two, 9-hole disc golf fields that are perfect for spending an afternoon of light activity with friends. Nature lovers might enjoy the Delores Fenwick Nature Center or they can cross city lines to enjoy the beautiful foliage at the Houston Botanic Garden.
Cultural and educational activities are also widespread throughout the city. Visitors can check out the old tombstones at the Old Settler's Cemetery, established in 1894 with the burial of Echolean Ackerly and the resting place of six civil war veterans. The Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railroad Depot was built in the late 1800s and is still standing today despite damage from Hurricane Ike in 2008. Pearland offers a variety of art museums and live theatre productions as well. Take in a live show at Kids Backporch Productions or spend an evening listening to the Texas Chamber Symphony. If our assisted living residents are looking for entertainment that is a little more specific, even more options can be found in the surrounding Houston area.
Climate
The Texas heat makes snowfall a very rare event in Pearland but there is ample rainfall that surpasses the national average by 14 inches each year. Summers can get hot in the area but the average in July falls around 92 degrees, so the heat is generally tolerable on most days. Winters are fairly warm, with January lows averaging around 45 degrees. This will require jackets on our residents for outdoor adventures but they will likely not encounter any icy conditions that might ruin their plans to leave our grounds.
Medical Care
Like all the Methodist Retirement Communities, we offer a wide range of medical services in-house to our residents. These services include memory support and we have staff qualified to perform skilled nursing assistance to those who require it. Sometimes, however, a resident is in need of care that goes beyond the scope of what we can provide. For these situations, the use of an outside facility ensures each resident gets the specialized aid they need. Pearland is home to multiple hospitals and medical centers, allowing locals an opportunity to go with the option that works best for their needs.
The Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital offers 24/7 emergency care and specializes in cancer treatments, joint health, and heart and vascular services. Memorial Hermann is also home to the Red Duke Trauma Institute, known for its low mortality rate and comprehensive trauma care services. HCA Houston Healthcare Pearland includes a level IV trauma center and a cardiology team that is made up of some of the top cardiologists in all of Houston. The facility is also home to their Solis Mammography department. Finally, the Houston Methodist Emergency Care Center is a dedicated, full-service, 24/7 emergency department. Patients who require inpatient care can be admitted to a Houston Methodist Hospital in the area.
