Memory Support that is unique
If you have ever walked through our memory support neighborhood, The Garden, you have likely noticed some unique features. With colorful doors, activity spaces, and even a juke box in the middle of the dining room, this neighborhood is like no other. However, what really makes this neighborhood special is the people who work and care for the residents there every day. One of these influential people is Lifestyle Coordinator, Marquita Briscoe.
Staff that is unique
Marquita joined The Crossings in October 2016 as a CNA in The Garden, bringing 17 years of experience to the role. After serving as The Crossing’s Staffing Coordinator, she began her current role as a Lifestyle Coordinator in The Garden last fall. Marquita is a Certified Dementia Practitioner, equipping her with the knowledge and skills to provide the best care for residents in our memory support neighborhood. She is also currently working towards her Activity Director Certification.
Innovative ideas that make you feel at home
With so much experience, it is not surprising that she has brought many innovative ideas to the neighborhood. For example, the colorful doors you’ll find in the halls of The Garden were introduced by Marquita last October. When a resident enters the neighborhood, they are invited to pick out a door with their family to personalize their new home. Marquita found these doors while researching ways to make our memory support neighborhood more reflective of our unique residents. In her research, she found that many communities in the United Kingdom use these doors to make their residents feel like they are truly part of a community. Marquita shared that they have plans to add mailboxes and porch lights to make these entrances personal and familiar to each resident.
Creating engaging spaces for residents
Another way Marquita has engaged residents is by creating a Vanity Room. Residents are able to go in the room and try on hats and jewelry, or even just sit at the vanity like they may have in the past. Marquita shared that she and the lifestyle team have plans to add more activity spaces to the neighborhood. They would like to see a library added for residents as well as a room that could serve as a hobby room. Additionally, they have plans to transform the dining room into an old school diner, centering it on the juke box that was recently donated.
Bigger heart, more blessings
Marquita’s impact on The Garden has clearly been immense. It is staff members like Marquita who are constantly working to improve residents’ lives that make The Crossings such a special place. Her heart, care, and compassion are blessings to our residents, and we are incredibly grateful to have her here at The Crossings.
