Sam Walton is famous for saying, “Great ideas come from everywhere if you just listen and look for them.” The Crossings’ Heritage Hall is a perfect example of a great idea that came to life due to the culture of creativity that seems to thrive at The Crossings. A long-time source of pride for the community recently served as a source of inspiration. The Wall of Honor, a display featuring photos of service men and women connected to The Crossings, is housed in the Memory Support area of the building. The wall is extremely impressive and can even be emotionally moving to behold. The only disappointment was, the display was not in a high traffic area where more people can appreciate the tribute. Now, a second and even more elaborate display can be found in Heritage Hall, the connecting hallway between the Woodland Creek common areas and The Forest common areas, a path that is frequented by up to 100+ people each day.
Jeff Avenmarg took the lead of the project. As the community’s Physical Plant Director, he was eager to include the feedback from the group while holding true to the aesthetics of the building and overall décor. This wasn’t the first, nor will it be the last renovation the Director will take lead on. However, this would certainly turn out to be one of the most meaningful as he and the team transformed an otherwise drab hallway into something beyond special.
He explained, “We believe our freedom in the USA is directly related to those serving in the military. It’s part of what makes America great. We want to celebrate and honor those who have served and share just a smidgeon of their story.” Along one side of this walkway you’ll find a multitude of photos of service men and women, each members of The Crossings family, past and present, who have served in the armed forces, along with photos of elected officials, both at a state and federal level.
The other side of the wall honors the history of League City, along with the history of The Crossings which opened in 2015. One of the prominent areas displays photos of each member of the Council of Advisors who act as volunteers. An instrumental group who raised both awareness and funds during the community’s development.
“Heritage Hall is designed to celebrate the past, present, and future of the individuals who make up The Crossings. Without residents and staff, The Crossings would be a lifeless empty shell, no different than an abandoned warehouse,” expressed Avenmarg.
